2018 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup; Falconets fight back to reach quarterfinals

The Nigerian Falconets

The Nigerian Falconets held the Chinese U20 to a 1-1 draw in their last Group D game of the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup to reach the quarter-finals.

The Falconets losed one game and won the other, making the Nigeria's U-20 Women be in desperate need to avoid any more loss so as to reach the quarterfinals.

The Chinese took the lead through Linyan Zhang who netted in the 41st minute.

The diminutive Zhang turned her Nigerian marker in the box before firing past Falconets goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie to give the Asians the lead just four minutes before the break.

With that scoreline, China were on their way to the quarterfinals and knowing that they were on their home, the Falconets pushed hard in search of an equaliser in the second half.

As the Falconets pushed, China goalkeeper Huan Xu was proving to be a stumbling block as she pulled off a couple of saves.

Only for Rasheedat Ajibade to turn home Aishat Bello’s cross at the near post in stoppage time to spark huge celebrations from the Nigerian bench

The Falconets will now face Spain U20 at the quarter finals on Thursday, 16th August at Stade Guy-Piriou, Concarneau at 4pm.
