Croatia midfielder Mateo Kovacic is set to undergo medicals at Chelsea today as he hopes to seal a loan move to the Stamford Bridge this summer.

The 24-year-old joined Los Blancos in 2015 from Inter Milan but was unable to secure his starting spot in the club. He made 21 Spanish League appearances for the Galacticos last term and is now looking for a club where he can get more playing time.

Manchester United are also said to be interested in the player who rather prefers the west London club as his next destination. Blues new boss Maurizio Sarri made the Croatian star his priority as he starts to overhaul the squad he inherited from Antoine Conte.

According to information fetched on Naij.com claim that Kovacic's move was motivated by his desires to leave the Spanish club after telling Real he wanted to leave for the chance of regular first team football.

He found his chances limited because of the form and fitness of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric - leaving him with little option but to seek for chances elsewhere despite finding favour at the side of Real boss Julen Lopetegui.

Confirming the news is Real's new boss Julen Lopetegui, saying: "It is true that Mateo (Kovacic) has expressed his desire to leave”.

The Blues have only managed to sign two players this summer Jorginho from Napoli and Rob Green who came into the club as a free agent. However, with less than two days to the wrap of this summer's transfer window, the Stamford Bridge outfit are all out to fortify their squad to compete favourable for titles this season.
